Crane Leads Gable’s Series A: Not Just a Product—A Movement

The Vision Behind Gable

A few days after Thanksgiving 2023, I found myself on Zoom with Chad Sanderson, Gable’s Co-founder and CEO. On his desk sat a massive sandwich, clearly a masterpiece of Thanksgiving leftovers. But Chad didn’t touch it. We talked for hours, diving deep into the data quality crisis plaguing modern enterprises. He articulated a vision that resonated deeply: data contracts as the key to a “shift left” revolution in data management. Chad was equal parts convincing, mesmerizing and irresistible in his vision and ambition and I was all in from that first call!

The Data Quality Challenge

Let’s discuss. You know the drill: software developers push code, data teams scramble to fix broken pipelines, and everyone spends more time firefighting than building valuable insights. Gable’s data contract platform flips this script. Imagine API-driven agreements that enforce data quality at source, ensuring data meets the precise needs of downstream consumers. That’s what Gable delivers. They’re pioneering (and refining) Data DevOps, empowering developers to own data quality, just like they own code. This approach is not just another data governance tool but a fundamental shift in managing data. With Gable, you can say goodbye to endless debugging and hello to reliable, high-quality data from the start.

Building A Movement, Not Just A Product

Gable isn’t just building a product; they’re building a movement. They understand the pain points of data engineers and developers because they’ve lived them. Their deep domain expertise and passion for innovation make them uniquely qualified to lead this charge. Gable is tackling the root cause of the data quality problem, not just the symptoms. They’re empowering developers to take ownership of data quality, a paradigm shift we’re excited to participate in.

Crane’s Journey with Gable

We believe in building long-term relationships with founders  and had no hesitation investing in Gable’s pre-seed (First to believe. Last to leave). Shout out to our friends at Zetta Venture Partners, who invited us into the pre-seed which they led. We saw the potential early on. We invested in their seed round, deepening our commitment. And then came the Seattle trip.

The Decision to Lead Series A

My co-founder Krishna and I were in Seattle visiting Gable, and the team’s progress was undeniable. As they presented, Krishna and I exchanged a glance. It was clear: we had to double down. “What if we led your round?” I asked. That question sparked an unforgettable evening fueled by sake and the excitement of building something truly impactful. We hashed out the beginnings of a deal, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Leading Gable’s Series A is a first for Crane. It’s a testament to our belief in the team and their vision. We’ve seen them execute flawlessly, and we’re confident they’ll revolutionize the data management landscape.

Looking to the Future

At Crane, we back founders with big ideas and even bigger conviction. That Thanksgiving sandwich never stood a chance—Chad was too busy laying out a vision that reimagines how data should work. With Gable, the future of data is developer-owned, API-driven, and contractually sound. We’re all in—and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
